A 31 year-old Guthrie Center woman was arrested Sunday after a young child she was babysitting was found on the side of the highway.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Catalina Ortiz-Ortega says she heard the rear door of her car open but didn’t realize the child had fallen out of the vehicle.

It happened just before 4pm Sunday as Ortiz-Ortega was turning off of Highway 141 onto I Court toward Tyson Fresh Meats on the west side of Perry.  The 1 1/2 year-old male was dropped off at the Dallas County Hospital emergency room after someone found him sitting along the Highway.

Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the hospital and Ortiz-Ortega later arrived and was arrested for a Class C felony for child endangerment, along with failure to have a valid driver’s license.

The infant was treated at Dallas County Hospital and transported to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines for additional treatment before being released back to his mother.
