perry logoAs we’ve mentioned several times before, 2013 was a big year for Perry.

With the usual ups and downs, the year provided some unique opportunities for the community and Mayor Jay Pattee says it’s definitely that won’t be forgotten.

“We had some great things happen in Perry this last year that don’t happen every year.  Fly Iowa that showcased our airport, the RAGBRAI overnight stop that doesn’t happen all the time.  We opened the Raccoon River Valley Trail and I think that’s going to be huge for recreation.  There might be a time where people come here, stay overnight at a local hotel, get on their bike, ride around on the Raccoon River Valley Trail and wonder when that came about and the answer is 2013” says Pattee.

Plus, Pattee mentions changes in the city and projects moving forward, along with annual traditions and the start of new chapters.

“The things that happen every year like BRR and those kind of things go on but I think what sticks out is infrastructure improvements, the closing and the reopening of the Hotel Pattee – that whole saga actually plays a part in Perry’s history.  That particular building has been a part of Perry for so long, an important part where people meet and socialize, I think it carries on our history.”
