Greene County SheriffToday and tomorrow, many of us will be celebrating the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.

With those celebrations, may come parties where alcohol is involved.  Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert would like to remind everyone that if you are going to be traveling to a party and consuming alcohol to make sure that you have a designated driver.

One of the biggest concerns is when someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle and drives when they are drunk and there are consequences for those actions.

Sheriff Haupert explains how he and his deputies will be handling the roads in the county during the New Year’s holiday.

“For those of you who think you’re going to be drinking and driving by yourself, please don’t because we are going to have extra patrol out and we will be saturating the county with patrol officers.  We just everyone to remain safe and have a happy New Year.”

Other helpful tips when drinking at parties is to remind people who go overboard to remind them to “stop” or “take a break” and encourage them to drink water or fruit juice. And make sure there is plenty of food to snack on. Remember, buzz driving is drunk driving.
