Sheriff Steve Haupert says from December 27th to January 1st, there were 19 reported cases of vehicle windows and windows of houses being broken from what appears to be shots from a BB gun in Grand Junction.
Haupert explains that they believe there are multiple suspects involved and most occurred on Main Street and Hager Street. He states that recently, they’ve had reports from people where picture frames were cracked from BB’s inside their house. Haupert adds that they haven’t confirmed whether or not the weapons used in each instance is a BB or pellet gun.
Even a sheriff’s deputy vehicle had the rear window shot out on Saturday, December 28th in Grand Junction.
Jefferson Police Chief Dave Morlan reports that there are three cases that also involved BB’s that shot out a window at 403 North Grimmell Road and at 700 West Lincolnway on December 23rd and most recently at 300 North Elm Street on Wednesday.
Sheriff Haupert believes all reports are related. He notes that initial charges of criminal mischief will be filed and others may follow at the completion of the investigation.
