Sheriff Steve Haupert says that at 11:55am yesterday, the Churdan Fire and Rescue Unit and two deputies responded to a vehicle fire inside a garage at 404 Bell Street in Churdan.

Craig Burbank was trying to start his 1994 Chrysler LHS with starter fluid and the engine caught fire.  Haupert states that when the deputies arrived on scene, the local fire department had pulled the vehicle out of the garage and extinguished the flames.

Haupert reports no injuries were involved and that heavy damage was concentrated to the engine of the vehicle.

Haupert would like to remind everyone that when there’s below freezing temperatures outside, to allow enough time for your vehicle to warm up inside your garage and make sure there’s plenty of airflow for the exhaust to escape so you aren’t overcome by the fumes.
