As was the case a month ago when the ADM Tigers faced off against the rival DC-G Mustangs in Adel, both the girls and boys teams came out on the wrong side of the win/loss column in their respective rivalry matchups last night in Grimes.
To start things off, Coach Brett Watson’s club fell to the Mustangs by a final score of 47-40 after having the lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers got a little loose with their handling of the basketball against a pesky DC-G defense in the final eight minutes of action, as the Mustangs forced ADM into poor shots and multiple turnovers and outscored the Tigers 14-5 in the final frame.
ADM’s balanced offense, which featured three players averaging in double-figures entering last night’s game, did not have a single player score in double-digits.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 4-3 on the season.
In the back half of the girls/boys doubleheader, the ADM boys scratched and clawed their way back into the contest toward the end of the third quarter after a miserable start.
DC-G, the number 7 team in Class 3-A, led 22-9 after the first quarter, but the Tigers outplayed the Mustangs over the course of the next two stanzas to pull within four at 47-43 near the end of the third quarter.
After that though, DC-G found its rhythm again as the Tigers simply ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and ultimately fell by a final score of 69-52.
Logan Essy tied with the Mustangs’ Nick Drucker to lead all scorers with 17 points on the night.
The loss was the fourth consecutive for head coach Aaron Mager’s ballclub, and the Tigers now sit at 2-5 on the year.
The ADM boys and girls will be back in action Tuesday in Perry to take on the arch-nemesis Bluejays.
