A local service provided is hoping to complete a major renovation by the end of this year in Jefferson.
Jefferson Telecom began its fiber to the home (FTTH) project last spring by replacing parts of the buried copper wire with fiber optic cable.
Marketing Manager Jody Schulte says providing fiber optics allows for a larger bandwidth to keep up with the demand of the ever-evolving technology world and it has a longer lifespan and by switching to fiber, if the technology were to change, they wouldn’t have to change the fiber.
She talks about the next step in the process.
“The next phase is to schedule appointments with each one of the residents in Jefferson and we will go in and wire the system, there inside the home.”
Schulte points out that businesses in Jefferson will also have their systems rewired with fiber optics at the same time this spring.
There are about 2,000 customers in the City for crews to work on this spring and summer.
