The 40th annual Jefferson Elks Hoop Shoot contest was held on Saturday at the Greene County Middle School gym.

Deputy for the Northwest Elks District Jerry Roberts says 96 people watched boys and girls ages 8-13 compete for a chance to represent the area at the district free-throw shooting contest on January 18th at Storm Lake.

The champion for 8-9 girls division was Rilee Jordan of Scranton and second place went to Isabella Schroeder of Jefferson.  The 8-9 boys champion was Logan Woodruff and the runner-up was Mason Happe both of Jefferson.

Talia Schon of Glidden took home first place for the 10-11 age division for the girls while second place was Emmalin Nelson of Jefferson.  For the boys side, first and second place were also from Glidden with Karter Kennebeck and Daniel Brigham respectively.

And the 12-13 winner for the girls was Kaitlyn McColley of Rippey and Gina Brown claimed runner-up honors.  For the boys, only first place was announced with Jefferson’s Austin Delp taking home that honor.

The district competition will be at 10am at Storm Lake High School on Saturday, January 18th.  Only the winners for each gender and age division will advance to the state contest in Des Moines in February.
