The Guthrie County Extension Office is partnering with the Southern Iowa Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Coalition over the next few months to offer free tax preparation for local residents with adjusted gross income below $57,000.

The VITA Coalition will have IRS certified tax preparers on hand to help residents file federal and state tax returns.

Those interested in receiving tax assistance must schedule an appointment with the Extension Office, and the first available time being offered is Thursday, January 23rd in Guthrie Center.  The service will then be provided every Thursday through April 10th, and also on the following Saturdays: February 8th and February 22nd.

Tax assistance will also be offered at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson on Saturday, February 15th, and at the Carroll County Extension Office in Carroll on Saturday, March 1st.
