A train derailment in Greene County doesn’t pose an obstacle for motorists.

Mark Davis, a Union Pacific Railroad spokesperson says around 7:30pm on Monday night, a train that was headed from Chicago, Illinois to North Platte, Nebraska had eight empty box cars were derailed between County Road P-14 and Jordan Avenue about five miles west of Jefferson.

Davis states that crews worked through the night and into today to repair and replace 25 concrete ties and had one set of tracks opened by 4pm this afternoon.  He points out that crews will need to repair about 300 feet of wooden rail ties and will have the other set of tracks opened by noon tomorrow.

There is no traffic delays or blockages during the accident or while crews were repairing the tracks and Davis adds that there were no injuries.

He comments that the cause of the accident is still under investigation by UP.
