Clel BaudlerThe first two weeks of the 2014 legislative session were fairly uneventful for state legislator Clel Baudler, House Representative from Iowa’s 20th District.

Baudler says week one comprised of legislators simply reacquainting themselves with one another, and last week’s schedule didn’t allow for comprehensive work because of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday and county caucuses.

Still though, Baudler has been able to meet with legislators in his committees, especially in Public Safety, and he says strict oversight in relation to drone usage remains his top priority.

“I had a drone bill in my committee last year, and it came two days before the second funnel… it was poorly written I thought and just a hodgepodge of narrow ideas to basically handcuff or punish law enforcement.  I don’t want to eliminate drones, I want to have oversight and regulation of them.”

Baudler says any drone bill that goes before legislative debate during the current session will have one thing at its core: the protection of people’s privacy.

Baudler adds that he doesn’t currently have a timeframe for when his committee will get a bill drafted due to the complexity of the issue.

To hear Baudler discuss in full detail what has happened so far during the early parts of the 2014 legislative session, tune-in to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County on K107 during the 9am, noon and 5 o’clock hours.
