fire north of stuartThe Stuart Fire & Rescue Departments, along with Panora Fire & Rescue and the Redfield Fire Department responded to a house fire at about 1:30am Sunday at 2628 Winding Trail, about 12 miles north of Stuart in Guthrie County.

Stuart Fire Chief Gary Fox tells Raccoon Valley Radio that over 30 firefighters were on scene to fight the blaze, which started in the home’s garage.  Fox says it took about four hours for firefighters to completely extinguish flames due to the high winds.  Fox says it was important to put out the fire entirely given the home’s close proximity to surrounding forest.

Residents were inside the home when the fire started but escaped unharmed.  One firefighter did sustain minor injuries during the firefight after slipping on a patch of ice, but Fox says he is now in good condition.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time and Fox says the home involved is a total loss.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
