The 2013 Greene County Chamber annual dinner meeting was held last night.
The highlight of the evening was the Above and Beyond the Call award for volunteerism and the 2013 recipient was Don Orris.
He talks about what the award means to him and the message it represents to everyone in the county.
“It’s a sign of what our community is about. We really are a group of volunteers and (we’re) trying to make a difference. I think there’s a lot of people that could’ve had the award just as well as I am and I think we’re in a pivotal time for our region that we need every volunteer that we can get and it does make a big difference.”
Other recognition’s throughout the night were anniversaries for chamber membership to area businesses including Clause Farms, Henkel and Associates and Printer’s Box for 25 years. Greene County Farm Bureau (pictured below), MHF Engineering, Midland Realty and Tri-County Lumber for 35 years. Chris Durlam of Durlam Electric (pictured below) was honored for 65 years of continuing chamber membership.
2014 Chamber Board President Ben Yoder stressed the need for showing heart of community and improving the quality of life as a big part of the Chamber’s mission and highlighted a welcome center as a cornerstone project to try and complete in 2014.
He also thanked the over 100 participants of last night’s dinner recognition and realized that it’s through leadership and cooperation that will make Greene County grow in the next couple of years.
