After two years of inactivity, Stuart’s Independent Order of Odd Fellows & Rebekahs are joining up to host a pancake breakfast fundraiser this coming Saturday to help create a scholarship for a high school student at West Central Valley.
The breakfast will take place from 7am to noon this coming Saturday, February 1st, at Stuart’s IOOF Hall, located at 121 N Gaines Street, and Keith Brittain, Grandmaster of Iowa’s Odd Fellow branch, hopes local residents will show up to support their fundraising efforts.
Brittain, a 40-plus year member of the organization, describes what the Odd Fellows & Rebekahs are all about.
“It’s a fraternal organization, and last year throughout the nation we donated better than $8 million to things like the Arthritis Foundation, the Seeing-Eye Foundation… we have our own scholarship fund. Basically the reason for (the Odd Fellows) is to educate orphans and to take care of widows and anybody else who needs assistance and help.”
The cost for a plate at Saturday’s pancake breakfast is $5 per person. Other free will donations will also be accepted.
Brittain says he will work with counselors at West Central Valley High School in the weeks ahead to decide which students would be worthy scholarship recipients.
Anyone with questions about the Odd Fellows’ pancake breakfast can contact Brittain at 515-523-1640.
