The Guthrie Center City Council has set a new date for a public hearing in relation to a proposed ordinance that would create a C-4 downtown zoning district committee in town.
City Administrator Laura Imerman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the official hearing will be held on Monday, February 24th, as a replacement for the meeting that was supposed to happen last week. That hearing was nixed due to lack of attendance and participation.
Imerman says the Council is seeking an ordinance to establish a downtown district committee so that the City has the ability to set “guidelines pertaining to building renovation and construction in the downtown district.” She says the committee would be reasonable, not strict, when it comes to oversight.
Imerman adds that the potential C-4 downtown zone would match the Main Street district that was established in Guthrie Center’s recent Main Street Iowa application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
To become an official ordinance, the proposed C-4 ordinance has to go through two more official readings. The second will be held on Monday, February 10th, and the final will be on the night of the public hearing.
