Due to the high demand and a fast sell out, co-creator of the Iowa Market-to-Market Relay Ben Cohoon says they’ve opened a second registration pool.
Last year, the inaugural event brought in 210, seven-person teams and this year’s event had all 250 teams fill up from the time registration began in October to earlier this month.
Cohoon is the race director and says they are delighted to extend registration to allow for 50 more teams to sign up. He states that they worked with the cities along the 17 exchange points on the 75-mile path from downtown Jefferson to downtown Des Moines on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, volunteers and RRVT Association to increase the number of participants.
Jefferson Mayor Craig Berry talks about events that the City did last year leading up to the start of the race the following Saturday morning at 6am.
“As for Friday night, what we did last year, we kind of had a deal uptown for them and an open house and stuff. I don’t believe we are going to the extent that we did last year.”
Cohoon believes they will have no trouble filling up an additional 50 teams for the Saturday, May 10th event that begins in the City of Jefferson. It is on a first come, first serve basis and to register your team, logon to: http://iowa.markettomarketrelay.com.
