The Panora City Council met Monday evening for the second time this month, and multiple city items were discussed.
City Administrator Lisa Grossman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the Council now has the official authority to borrow up to $300,000 for construction of Panora’s new Public Works facility. The loan will be finalized after bids are received over the course of the next month.
Grossman says bidding for the project will open next Thursday, February 6th at 2pm. The final date for bid submission is February 27th. Any prospective bidder will be able to hand in a submission online or directly to City Hall once bidding opens.
The Council then agreed to pledge $5,000 and draft a letter of support for the Panorama Community Health and Wellness Center, a project trying to acquire the Cargill facility in town for its use. Grossman says that while the City will support the project, the Council would still prefer that a business find its way into the vacant Cargill plant.
Grossman says such a sentiment will be voiced in any letter of support that is ultimately drafted on behalf of the wellness center project.
Finally, the Council approved the 2014 volunteer rosters for the Panora Fire and EMS Departments. Panora Fire will have 23 volunteer firefighters this year, while EMS will have 10 volunteers to go along with its full and part-time employee roster.
