The Perry Police Department will have a new Chief as of this weekend.
Assistant Chief Eric Vaughn will take over the head position February 1st, replacing current Chief Dan Brickner who is retiring after almost 20 years with the Perry Police Department.
City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says it should be a smooth transition without any sort of service interruption for Perry residents.
“This worked really well for Eric. He’s well thought of in the community, he and his family. So it’s a natural transition for him to go into that position and I think he’s got the backing of all his employees too” says Niebuhr.
The departure of Brickner leaves the department down two officers, at a total of just 10 for the time being. Though Niebuhr says they have some quality candidates and have started interviewing people for the positions.
