droughtJanuary was another dry month for the Raccoon River Valley area as all three of our weather reporting communities recorded well below normal precipitation levels.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor from the National Climatic Data Center, Dallas, the majority of Guthrie and southern border of Greene County continues to be classified as in a moderate drought.  The southern portion of Guthrie County is listed as abnormally dry and the majority of Greene County is in a severe drought.

The National Weather Service reports Perry, Jefferson and Guthrie Center saw no measurable precipitation this week.

Perry and Jefferson wrap up the month of January with just 0.18 inch of precipitation, while Guthrie Center only had 0.09 inch.  All three areas typically see just under an inch in January.
