Scranton City Clerk Melinda Hinners says water service was restored to the City at 10:45 this morning.

She states that crews fixed a water main break in the 400 block of Main Street that was reported on Friday, January 31st.  She comments that they don’t know the specifics of how the water main broke as of yet.

Hinners points out that the City is now under a boil advisory until further notice as a precautionary measure.  She notes that there’s been no indication that the water quality has been effected, but that this is standard procedure that the City must follow when water services are turned off for an extended period of time because there is the potential for bacterial contamination.

Hinners adds that the City is sending in two water samples to be tested and if those come back clean, then the boil advisory will be lifted.

She encourages all residents to bring their water to a boil and then boil it for one minute and let it cool before using it for consumption or for brushing teeth.  She adds that you can purchase bottled water to help the situation.
