Students at Jefferson-Scranton Elementary and Greene County Intermediate and middle schools will once again participate in the annual Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart campaign.
Organizer and Greene County Physical Education Teacher Lori Danner says students in third through eighth grade will be taking donations to raise funds for the American Heart Association while receiving education on how to live a heart-healthy lifestyle.
She states that the fundraising campaign will be now through the 14th and that last year, the children raised $10,739. In 2012, students raised over $10,000 and were number one in their region which includes northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota.
She talks about the excitement and enjoyment she has knowing that they’ve consistently raised over $10,000 every year.
“We are very excited about that. The students just do a phenomenal job. We have a kind of fire up session here with each P.E. class that I have and the students are just phenomenal, they really get into it and they have a lot of caring hearts as well as want to do the best that they can for anybody that has a health issue.”
Danner points out that in the past, students in third and fourth grades participate in Jump Rope for Heart while students in fifth through eighth grades are in Hoops for Heart.
It is sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
