With measurable snowfall expected across the Jefferson area, residents are reminded of the City’s snow ordinance and a change to parking violations.
Police Chief Dave Morlan says anytime there’s at least a half of an inch of accumulated snowfall, the City’s snow ordinance goes into effect.
In the residential areas, when the snow ordinance is in effect, vehicles must be off the streets from 6pm-6am so that the street department crews can clear snow from the roads and away from the curbs. In the downtown square, the snow ordinance is enforced from 2am-6am, both the night when the snowfall begins and then again the next night. He points out the second night after the snow stops falling is for crews to clear any snow that businesses may have shoveled onto the street from their sidewalks in front of their businesses.
Also, within 12-hours of a snow event, residents must have their sidewalks and entryways cleared to avoid any citations.
Chief Morlan states that new parking fines have been established by the City Council for any vehicle found in violation of the snow ordinance, police officers can issue tickets for $50 with a $8 for court costs for a total of $58.
The National Weather Service is calling for 2-4 of possible snowfall for the Jefferson area starting today and going through tomorrow.
