basketball thru hoopADM’s boys and girls basketball teams will have to wait until tomorrow to take on arch-rival Perry in a varsity doubleheader on the hardwood after last night’s games were postponed due to inclement weather.

While boys coach Aaron Mager was eager to take on the Bluejays last night, his team can benefit from two additional days preparing for Perry star Shammond Ivory, who is currently the second leading scorer in the Raccoon River Conference.  Ivory enters tomorrow’s contest averaging 18 points per game, and he had 25 in game one between ADM and Perry back on January 7th–a game that ended in a Bluejays win, 67-61.

Slowing Ivory down is simply a must for ADM, and Coach Mager explains how the Tigers will defend the high-scoring guard.

“I think the first thing we need to do–if we’re playing man-to-man–is we need to do as much as we can not to let him touch the ball.  I think once he gets it, that’s when he does his damage.  He’s a pretty good passer as well, so you let him touch it and if he’s not getting points directly, he’s probably creating points because you have to provide so much help.  So I think where we need to be better is we need to deny him the ball, we need to make sure he doesn’t touch it as much as he’s accustomed to.  We’ll probably be multiple in what we’re doing defensively as well.”

Both Perry and ADM enter tomorrow’s boys game reeling.  The Tigers have lost six of seven, while the Bluejays have dropped four straight.

We’ll see which team can break with their losing ways after the girls’ varsity contest.  Coverage of the varsity doubleheader begins at 5:45 on K107.
