Stuart’s Family Resource Center is again putting on its spring formal dance for special needs high schoolers and adults this spring, and area residents are encouraged to consider making donations to help the center orchestrate the event.
Service Coordinator Abby Davis tells Raccoon Valley Radio the items needed for the dance at this time include decorations, door prizes, snacks, hair accessories and jewelry, plus formal dresses and tuxedos for attendees to wear. Cash donations are also welcome to help with the cost of these items.
Davis says the dance is used to give area high school age to adult individuals with disabilities “the opportunity to socialize with others, find new friendships and work on social skills that will help them when out in their communities.”
The center’s formal dance is now in its fourth year, and it will be held on Saturday, April 5th at Guthrie Center High School. Davis says the dance typically hosts between 80 and 100 people with disabilities and another 30 to 40 Resource Center staff.
If any area residents would like to make a donation, mail items to the Family Resource Center located at 608 S Division Street in Stuart. For more information about the dance, contact Davis at 515-523-1611.
