With the support of community members, Greene County Adopt-A-Family had another successful year in 2013.
The Holiday Food Baskets is one of the biggest events of the year for GCAAF and spokesperson Laura Ballard says they were able to provide $16,000 worth of food and other household items to 160 less fortunate families in the county in December.
She states that they had donations for the Jefferson Fareway Food Store, several churches and the SHARE program through New Opportunities to help make this program a success.
Other events GCAAF is involved with is a School Supplies for Kids Drive that served 190 youth from 71 families in August receive school supplies for the school year and Operation Warm Hearts is where they provide winter gear for area youth in October.
Plus, Ballard points out they continue to support the Homeless Youth program through the Greene County High School to provide other items that less unfortunate students may need throughout the year.
She talks about the generosity GCAAF receives every year from the public.
“It’s amazing the support we get in this county, especially young people, churches (and) civic organizations. They all come together and help us put together the Christmas baskets, they help us do coat drives. It’s just an amazing feeling to know that everybody wants to help out their neighbors.”
