Those looking to participate in the fruit tree grafting workshop this spring are encouraged to sign up early,
Hosted by the Dallas County Conservation Board and featuring Iowa State University Extension specialist Patrick O’Malley, the event is both informative and interactive.
“He will have handouts as well as the whole thing talking about grafting in general. Then he’ll show specific types of grafting, followed by a demonstration. Participants then start grafting and he helps them as needed. Each participant gets two root stock which they self-graft to take home with them. Remember this is living carpentry, you have to get those two layers to match so it’s a bit of an art form,” says Malmberg.
That’s museum curator Pete Malmberg who says he’s participated in similar events before and is looking forward to offering it to Dallas County residents.
The event takes place at the Forest Park Museum Thursday, April 3rd from 6:30-8:30pm.
The cost to attend is $35 per person for $60 for a couple, to cover all needed materials.
To register call the museum at 465-3577.
