ADM’s 2013-14 wrestling season has come and gone, but head coach Justin Schmauss wishes to sign off on the season with a few last words for guys that will return to his team next year.
First off, Schmauss encourages his wrestlers to compete in other sports between now and next season. At the very least, he wants his guys to remain active in any way possible.
Schmauss does want to see some devotion to putting time in on the mat as well.
“As far as wrestling goes, just get those matches in. Matches are huge. I was saying to our guys and other people this year, is about every 10 matches you could see jumps in improvement from our guys, and that would be the same theme through the summer. About every 10 matches they get this summer, they’re going to improve that much more. So if they could get 30 matches this summer, that is gaining a whole other year of experience.”
Coach Schmauss says wrestlers can expect to receive updates in the weeks ahead about offseason conditioning and drilling.
As he’s said all year though, head-to-head competition is most important in the lead up to next season.
