For a third straight year in a row, the Greene County High School jazz choir has been selected to compete at the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships later this year.

Director David Heupel says they are very excited to compete once again in Class 3A and last year, they had their best finish in fourth place out of eight schools.  The year before they placed eighth out of 11 entries.

Each year, schools are required to submit a recorded version of their performance for reviews by the judges and then placements are determined from there.  Heupel states that they three songs they chose this year are  “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” arranged by Paris Rutherford, “I’ll Be Seeing You” arranged by Darmon Meader and “Can’t Buy Me Love” arranged by Kirby Shaw.

Heupel notes that his group has received other recognitions throughout the school year including a I-rating at the Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Festival and being selected to perform at the North Central American Choral Directors Association Conference in Des Moines later this month.

The IVJC will be on Tuesday, April 1st at Ballard High School in Huxley.  Heupel is hoping to finish higher than they did last year with 13 students including five who made it to all-state in choir this year.
