The Stuart Police Department is participating in the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau program this month, which means officers will increase their enforcement of traffic laws beginning March 14th through March 17th.
According to Stuart PD, participation in the special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) allows the force “to get about 25% of its equipment budget and about 80% of its new equipment costs reimbursed by the state.” To receive the state funding, Stuart PD has to participate in six such sTEP projects over the course of a calendar year.
The increased traffic enforcement period essentially results in Stuart PD pledging to not give travelers simple warnings for seat belt and drunk driving violations. To that end, Stuart PD reminds residents to “buckle up and drive sober,” not just during the enforcement period, but all the time.
Anyone with questions about the upcoming sTEP period in Stuart can contact the force at 515-523-1896.
