While the weather may not indicate as much, the ADM boys track season is underway, and head coach Mike Whisner says his team has been hard at work to get in shape for the season ahead.
After all, the Tigers’ first meet is less than a week away now, as they’ll travel to Wartburg College for an indoor invitational on Tuesday, March 11th.
Coach Whisner explains what practice has been like over the season’s early stages.
“Primarily the first two weeks is kids that hadn’t been out for winter sports–so non-basketball (players), non-wrestlers–we got together and did some general conditioning with them to get them ready for the outdoor season… whenever the snow melts.”
15 of his 35 track athletes competed in winter sports this season, so they have some catching up to do before Tuesday’s season-opener. Coach Whisner says they’re work this week deals with flexibility.
“We work mostly just on short distance runs, and then we’ll work on some of the stuff that takes time–hurdle block work, hurdle flexibility… those kinds of things so we can get them back into flexibility mode.”
