Greene County track and field senior Thea Ballard is looking forward to her final season. The sprinter told Raccoon Valley Radio her goals include qualifying for the state meet and winning a team championship in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. She has not competed at a state meet in her previous three years in the sport, and that’s a big goal, but one she feels is realistic. “I’m hoping to go to state in the 4 x 100 meter relay or 4 x 200. That’s my main goal.”

Ballard talked about the sprint corps at Greene County High School. “We have a lot of girls who are pretty dynamic, so a lot of our sprinters are actually long distance girls, and vice-versa, so we have a pretty deep squad. I feel a lot of girls are going to step up and show what Ram track’s all about.”

She added that a lot of her times have gone down significantly from her freshman year to now. “I normally run 100’s and 200’s and I’ve cut those times down pretty significantly.”

The Greene County girls have indoor meets scheduled for March 17 in Ames at Iowa State University and March 21 in Storm Lake at Buena Vista University. The first outdoor meet on the schedule is set for Monday, March 31 at the Linduska Field track complex for the Rams’ own Early Bird meet.
