droughtThe amount of snowfall and precipitation received during the first few days of March differs greatly throughout the Raccoon River Valley Area.

According to the National Weather Service, Jefferson has received nearly 8 inches of snow since March 1st, while Guthrie Center has seen just 1.5 inches and Perry has had 3.4 inches.

With that large total already, Jefferson quickly surpassed their normal snowfall total for the month of just 4.9 inches.  Perry isn’t far from their normal average of 3.8 inches and Guthrie Center has a way to go as they usually see nearly five inches in March.  All three areas have a normal monthly precipitation amount of just over two inches.

In terms of drought conditions, the latest drought monitor from the National Climatic Data Center shows so major change from last week with conditions ranging from abnormally dry to severe drought.
