Greene County High School basketball coaches Chad Morton and Jeramie Hinote have announced letter winners and other awards from the recently completed 2013-14 seasons. Coach Morton’s girls’ squad went 9-13 while Coach Hinote’s boys were 6-16.
Boys letter were seniors Will Meinecke and Conner Wilkens; juniors Landon Braun and Riah Nelsen; sophomores Tyler Beger, Sico Boateng, Mitchell Gorsuch, Reid Lamoureux, and Max Neese; freshman Trey Tucker. Tucker led the Rams in scoring at 19.7 points per game and he led the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference in scoring.
Braun became the Rams’ all-time leader in made three-point baskets for a career, and two team three point shooting records were also set. This team of Rams set a school record for most three-point goals made in a single game at 13 vs. PCM (Monroe) and Panorama (Panora). A school record for most three-pointers made in a season was also set at 179, shattering the old mark of 139.
Girls lettering were seniors Thea Ballard, Abby Bravard, and Allie Stoline. The other letter winners, all juniors, were Jolee Wessling, Tressa Rasmussen, Stacy Mears, Emily Christensen, Emma Saddoris, Hannah Onken, Kayla Mobley, and Marissa Promes. Anna Kozal and Shelby Cooklin lettered as managers.
Mobley was voted by her teammates as player of the year with Onken receiving the will to win award, and Wessling, Mears, and Bravard all being named most improved players.
Team records included most points in a game (85) vs. Colfax-Mingo; most two-point field goals in a game (34) vs. C-M (tied existing record); most three-point field goals in a single game (8) vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) (tied existing record). Mobley tied the school record for most rebounds in a game at 18 vs. PCM.
Heart of Iowa Activities Conference academic all-conference honors went to all 11 varsity girls and the managers. Each was a junior or senior with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.00 scale. The team also earned the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Distinguished award for a team GPA of 3.49.
