Guthrie Co. Iowa DeputyA Guthrie County resident is due in court later this month for allegedly crashing into three separate, unattended vehicles this past Saturday evening behind Shorts Bar in Menlo.

53 year-old Craig Paul Bywaters of Menlo has a court date set for March 27th after he was issued two citations, one for striking unattended vehicles and failing to provide information, and the other a violation for financial liability.

According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Bywaters was attempting to leave Shorts Bar by backing between two separate vehicles just before 5:30pm Saturday, but while backing up his 2000 Chevy Trailblazer, he swiped both units before impacting the front right portion of another vehicle. Bywaters then re-parked his vehicle and returned into the bar before calling for a ride.

According to the investigation report from the Sheriff’s Office, “it is presumed that Bywaters was intoxicated” at the time of the incident.  The report also says that the estimated total damage sustained by the three hit vehicles is $8,000.  The damage to Bywaters’ vehicle is estimated at $1,500.

Sheriff Marty Arganbright says additional charges against Bywaters are pending at this time.
