Another area high school experienced great success recently at the district speech competition, as West Central Valley qualified 20 of 24 entries for the state speech contest in Glenwood this weekend.
Speech coach Nancy Bush says it is hard to predict how students will do when the pressure of competition is turned on, but she’s proud of how her Wildcats performed at districts, and she speaks glowingly of them as a group.
“They’re incredible to work with, they’re very hard working… they a lot of times have been challenging me this year, and my assistant speech coach Jackie Draper. So, they’re an incredible group to work with.”
Five West Central Valley students qualified for state as speech-givers in multiple categories, and they are Liam Crawford, Ranissa Draper, Elaine Meyers, McKayla Moore and Shawn Murphy. These students will be joined by 10 fellow speech classmates at the Individual Speech Contest on Saturday.
