The annual 6-on-6 basketball fundraiser is returning to Scranton this weekend.
Organizer Dawn Rudolph says there will be a soup supper served before the musical entertainment provided by Scranton’s Town and Country Band before and during the halftime intermission of the 6-on-6 basketball game between the City’s fire department and the women of Greene County.
She explains why they chose to have those two teams as the highlight for the classic style of women’s basketball game.
“The women’s team, we’ve played now for six years and this is the fifth year for our event there at the community center. And we are playing the Scranton Fire Department, this is a rematch from last year. The women prevailed last year by one point so they’re out for a little revenge let’s say.”
She notes that people can pay separately for just the soup supper which includes five different kinds of soup, rolls and beverages for $5 for ages 13 and older and $3 for youth from 6-12 years-old and free for anyone five years-old and younger. It will be served from 5-7pm.
To see the Town and Country Band perform before the basketball game at 6pm followed by the game at 6:30pm is the same admission charge. Rudolph comments that there will also be a shooting contest and the announcement of the winners of a silent auction during halftime of the game with door prizes awarded.
Rudolph adds that all the proceeds will go to community improvements, parks and recreation programs and community center upgrades and improvements.
