It is Saturday… But hey, just because it’s the weekend doesn’t mean the action stops for the ADM girls track team.
Head coach Bart Mueller will take his Tigers to Pella today for the Central College Girls’ High School Invitational. It will be ADM’s final indoor track meet of the season–boys or girls.
Coach Mueller talks about what today’s competition will be like for his team.
“The nice thing about Central is it is a little more low-key. It is still a big meet but we’ll run against a lot more small schools. At UNI and Iowa State, you see the 4-A, bigger 3-A schools and the best 1-A competitors. Central is more your average type of a track meet–still a lot of schools but a lot of smaller schools, and so we’ll compete better against those smaller schools.”
Mueller says he enjoys the Central meet every season for an additional reason: he can bring everybody.
“They don’t have the limits like Iowa State had on the number of competitors and number of relays. I kind of like that. It is a long day because it goes on… they had 200 girls, I think, ran the 200 (meter dash) last year, so you can imagine putting 200 girls through an event, that’s a lot of heats in the sprints. So, Saturday is more like trials and it should be a good meet, good experience for us.”
After competing in Pella today, the ADM girls will have a little more than a week off before heading outdoors. The Tigers’ next compete against Dallas Center-Grimes on Monday, March 31st.
