bike monthWe might be just one week into April, but plans are coming together for several events next month as Perry celebrates Bike Month.

The event is sponsored by the City of Perry, the Chamber of Commerce and Raccoon River Valley Bicycle Company.

Chamber Executive Director Bob Wilson says there’s no shortage of opportunities for people to get some use out of their bikes.

“Tuesday mornings at 9 o’clock we’re going to start at Perry Perk coffee and do a coffee ride.  Sometimes we’ll go to Dawson, sometimes to Minburn, maybe just sometimes around the block just depending.  These are not hard rides.  They’re supposed to be very user friendly so all types of cyclists are involved.  A family bike night on Tuesday evening, starting at the bike shop there.  Thursday night going to try and bring it into an adult bike night, maybe have a couple of cocktails or whatever tickles your fancy there.  All throughout the month there’s just a bunch of great programs” says Wilson.

He says they’re also going to really push the bike to school and bike to work weeks.

“We’re really going to push that.  Tell kids to get on out there and get on their bikes to school or walk to school.  It’s a healthier way to get to school, it’s more environmentally safe and it’s a heck of a lot more fun.  You know, people who commute by bike… I’ve never heard them complain about their commute.

Will we bring you more information on Bike Month as it gets closer.
