Greene County RamsThis year’s theme for the 2014 Greene County High School prom is “Under the Sea”.

Junior Class Advisor Teresa Green says they’ve been busy getting decorations and plans together for all the activities that’ll take place this Saturday for prom.

She points out that Saturday will start with a public viewing of the decorations from 3:30-4:30pm.  Green comments that decorations for the dance are at the Jefferson Elk’s Lodge, the banquet decorations are at the United Methodist Church and the after-prom decorations are at the Greene County Middle School.

She states that the decorations for the dance includes blue-lite columns, a wrecked ship entryway, an octopus made out of 300 balloons and paper-made jellyfish.

Students can have their pictures taken starting at 4:30pm by Kim Christensen Photography with the banquet to follow at the United Methodist Church.  The meal will be prepared by Ram Restaurant of which Green adds that 187 students have signed up for the meal.

One of the more popular events is the grand march that will be from 7:30-8:15pm from the middle school to the Elk’s Lodge.  She points out that if there’s bad weather, then the march will be moved to the Greene County Community Center.  Students wanting to be in the march should lineup at about 7:15 at the middle school.

The dance will be from 8:30-11:30pm at the Elk’s Lodge with refreshments and musical entertainment provided.

Finally, after prom will begin at 11:30pm at the middle school with the doors to close at midnight.  The theme for after prom is “The Royal Caribbean”.  From 12:30-1:30am on Sunday, the students will be entertained by a hypnotist.  Then Green says students can either go bowling at Spare Time Lanes or stay at the middle school for inflatables, a mock casino, karaoke and other activities.

She talks about the community support to provide for safe environments for students during after prom.

“I’m always amazed and impressed with how our community rallies around our kids and supports them so that we do have a fun and safe after prom party for our kids to go to.”

Green notes that funds were raised through ticket sales and a junior class chili supper this winter to pay for the prom itself and the after prom activities were paid for by personal fundraisers from the junior class parents of about $10,000.
