2014 Jefferson City CouncilThe Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.

The Council approved the final adoption for the 2012 International Property Maintenance Code following the public hearing, a resolution of support for the Jefferson Matters: Main Street program, the final reading to close the Union Pacific Railroad crossing at Pinet Street and a letter of intent to extend water and sewer services to the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 4 if the casino is approved.

The Council also approved amending the City Administrator’s employment agreement to include the 1.75% increase in pay to next fiscal year’s budget and purchase seven monitoring systems from Electric Pump at $2,845 a piece for the seven sewer lift stations.

The Council discussed the possibility of allowing beekeeping in the City.  Cail Calder of Bee Mindful in Scranton spoke to the Council about Scranton’s ordinance that allows him to service beehives within that City.  He said he has 164 hives in the county and is looking to place hives by the high school so that students could learn more about bees and north of the railroad tracks on Cedar Street.  The Council decided to let the Planning and Zoning Commission look at the possible ordinance change and give the Council their recommendation at a later date.

The Council also approved Greene County Development Corporation’s quarterly funding request.

Mayor Craig Berry told the Council that the 17th Annual Hiawatha Classic Bike Ride will be coming through Jefferson on May 17th.  He also reported that there are 300 teams registered for the 2nd annual Market-to-Market Relay on May 10th.
