The 2014 Greene County Relay for Life raised over $50,000.
Organizer Peg Raney says they raised $51,934.44 for the American Cancer Society this year with donations in several different areas.
Home State Bank Team Towers led the team donations with $5,992.50. Next was The Cancer Crusaders at $3,045.79 and the St. Joe’s Holy Walkamolies raised $2,854.41 as a team.
Raney states that the silent auction had a record number of money raised with $5,490. Other events like the luminaria brought in $1,152, the Color Out Cancer 5K run/walk created $4,700 in donations and the barbecue meal collected $1,376.43 in free-will donations.
Maurita Aubrey of Jefferson won the survivor’s quilt that was made and donated by Karla Janning and Anne Butler.
Raney points out that $12,175 cash was raised by area businesses and organizations along with another $6,355 for in-kind sponsorships.
