ADMADM’s boys and girls golf teams were supposed to take on rival Perry Thursday in one of their final tune-up matches before Monday’s Raccoon River Conference tournaments.

The weather, however, had other ideas, forcing the matches to be cancelled.

Today though, the ADM boys head to Ames Golf & Country Club for an 18-hole tournament being hosted by Gilbert.  Head coach Cris Goodale says he’s eager to see how his boys perform today because the state tournament coming up in a couple of weeks will be held on the same course.

Goodale discusses how he’ll ask his players to go about today’s round.

“I want them to learn… As they’re walking around the course, they need to take their scorecards and make notes on them as to yardage, problems they see after they play the hole, (mark) what possible trouble spots there are or what to stay away from.  So I’ll have them write stuff down on their card that way they can take those notes home and study them over the weekend.”

Coach Goodale says his boys will have a great opportunity to qualify for the state tournament, saying he has players “that can compete with anybody.”

But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, the Tigers have some business to take care of Monday, and Goodale says he has high expectations for the conference tournament at Terrace Hills in Altoona.

“I think we’ve got a really good shot at winning it, but again, the boys just have to be confident in themselves.  They can put it together and they can play with anybody, but there are times when their confidence falls… My expectation though is that they’ll do fine and that we’ll win the conference.”

The ADM girls will also play their conference tournament Monday, with that event being played at Ballard Golf & Country Club.  Coach Goodale says he’s also expecting a great performance from his girls’ squad.

“The girls are right now playing really confident.  They’re scores are going down–the last meet we had was the lowest score of the season.  They just keep getting more and more solid.  I have a good feeling about conference.”

After Monday’s tournaments for both the boys and girls’ teams, all that remains on the schedule is postseason play.  The boys’ sectional tournament will be played this coming weekend, while the girls’ sectional will be played on Monday, May 19th.
