Tickets are now available for the Midwest premiere of “Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge” at History Boy Theatre in Jefferson.
Co-Director Robby Pederson says the musical is about a boy running from the law because he killed his dad and is hiding out in a 1920’s Appalachia town where the locals think he’s a hero.
The cast includes nine people, all of which are local names. Rob Hoyt from Scranton, Gabe and Yvette Bardole, Katie Leusink, Rosco Richardson and Sam Pederson all from Jefferson were selected ten weeks ago during the casting call for the show.
Pederson points out one difficult part of organizing the romantic-comedy is finding bluegrass musicians to play live at the performances.
“So we started a year ago looking for bluegrass bands to try to hire. The problem with a bluegrass musical is that they wrote it like a musical. So what we’ve ended up doing is having to put together instead of a bluegrass band, we’ve had to find four individual musicians that can handle the score and bring them together.”
He adds that a theatre in Tennessee beat them to the national premiere after it was available from Off-Broadway.
The shows will be on Bell Tower Festival weekend from June 13th through the 15th and the following weekend from June 20th through the 22nd. Friday and Saturday’s performances will be at 7pm and there will be a Sunday afternoon matinee at 2pm.
Tickets are $12.50 and can be purchased by calling 515-370-4306 or by stopping at RVP-1875 at 115 South Wilson Street.
