greene county historical societyThe unofficial results of Tuesday night’s primary election are in for Greene County.

There was only one contested race for the Republican candidate for County Treasurer and with all seven precincts reporting, Kristi Holz defeated Phyllis Drake 304 to 227 votes.  Holz will challenge current Democrat Treasurer Donna Lawson who received 147 votes.

The County Auditor’s office reports that incumbent Republican Supervisors Dawn Rudolph received 449 votes and Tom Contner received 465 votes.  Current Democrat Recorder Marcia Tasler had 153 votes and Republican County Attorney Nicola Martino received 346 votes, both ran unopposed.

As for the Iowa House District 47 Representative seat, incumbent Republican Chip Baltimore had 469 votes and Greene County voters selected Mark Trueblood with 65 votes for the Democrat candidate, who is no longer in the race for the Democrat nomination.

Current Governor Terry Branstad defeated challenger Tom Hoefling 485 to 101 votes.

As for the Republican candidate for the open United States Senate seat, Greene County voters chose Joni Ernst with over 57% of the ballots with 337 votes to Sam Clovis’s 121, followed by Mark Jacobs with 65, Matt Whitaker with 50 and Scott Schaben had 17 votes.

There were only 768 ballots cast with 607 from the Republican Party to 161 from the Democrats.  All results are unofficial until the canvass of votes by the Board of Supervisors is conducted.  For full results click here.
