Greene County is 0-3 in baseball games so far this week after losing 16-6 in five innings by the 10-run rule on Wednesday night at Gilbert in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams were 3-3 entering the week, but they’ve been out scored by a combined 37-11 in losses at Nevada, at Perry, and at Gilbert. Greene County is hone at Allensworth Field in Jefferson tonight at 7:30 p.m. vs. non-conference opponent Carroll in a game to be broadcast on KG98. Class 2A second tanked North Polk (Alleman) visits Allensworth Field on Friday night.

The Rams held a brief 1-0 lead in the first vs. the Tigers, but Gilbert led 9-1 after one, and had 16 runs in the first three innings. Senior Wes Tipton lost for the first time in three decisions. He went just 2/3 of an inning, giving up nine runs, seven of which were earned. Sophomore Tyler Beger threw the last 3-1/3 innings and he gave up seven runs, all earned. Evan Johnson had a three-run homer in the first for Gilbert.

The Rams were out hit 13 to four. Junior Jordan Hostetler had a double and two runs batted in while junior Dylan McConnell had a single and two RBI. Junior Alex Rasmussen also drove in a run, and juniors Colton Fitzpatrick and Riah Nelsen each added base hits.

Greene County is 3-5 in conference games and 3-6 overall while Gilbert improved its HOIAC mark to 6-2.
