The Perry softball team picked up the statement win that they had been searching for the past two years last night by defeating 3A defending state champion Bondurant Farrar 6-4. The Jayettes provided early fireworks scoring four runs in the first and two more in the second. Senior Julie Diw put Perry on the board with a three run home run off Kaylee Bycroft in the first and freshman Emma Olenjzack continued her hot stretch by smacking a two run shot off the scoreboard in left center in the second. The home runs were the 7th and 8th of the year for Perry. Eighth grader Alyssa Krueger added a RBI single in the first as well.
The offense was plenty for Olenjzack who shook off early control problems to settle down and throw her third straight complete game. She surrendered 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 6.
Perry (3-3 in RRC) will travel to Huxley tonight for a matchup with another ranked team in Ballard. First pitch is slated for 7:30. Bondurant Farrar falls to 3-3 in RRC and 6-4 overall.
