The Des Moines Cycle Club is hosting a weekend event on the Raccoon River Valley Trail with an overnight stop in Jefferson.
Chuck Offenburger with RRVTA says the sixth annual “Tour the Raccoon” will bring an anticipated 100 cyclists from the Des Moines to Jefferson on the north loop of the bike trail on Saturday for an overnight stop by the Depot.
He states that the trip officially starts from Waukee Saturday morning and will bike 60 miles to the trailhead that’s south of the Jefferson Depot where most riders will camp out.
Along the route, Offenburger points out that each participant will be involved in a scavenger hunt leading up to Jefferson. Then before the group heads back to Des Moines on Sunday, participants will be treated to a free breakfast provided by Jefferson’s McFarland Clinic.
Offenburger adds that riders can also get a breakfast at the community center in Panora sponsored by a local boy scout troop.
Sponsorships include Bike World of West Des Moines, the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association, DeeZee truck accessories of Des Moines and B Graphix Design of Malvern, Ia.
Registrations are still accepted with a $60 fee for DMCC members and $75 for everyone else.
