GCHS Flag DisplayNational Flag Day is this Saturday and the Greene County Historical Society has a few plans in mind to celebrate the holiday.

Executive Director Roger Aegerter says they have various flags on display right now at the historical museum in Jefferson.

“We’ve got flags from post-Civil War, some early flags from the 1940’s and some other flags that were brought home by servicemen into Greene County so we have a variety of about ten flags and they’re hanging in the museum right now.”

Aegerter comments that during the Bell Tower Festival Parade, the historical society members and volunteers will carry a 20-by-30-foot American flag which is loaned to them by Kum & Go Corporate offices.  GCHS Flag Display pic 2

He adds that in honor of the 200th birthday of the Star Spangled Banner, written by Francis Scott Key in 1814, the Mahanay Bell Tower will play the National Anthem at 3pm on Saturday, June 14th and the public is invited to sing the Anthem in participation of Anthem Across America.

Aegerter urges everyone to enjoy Flag Day by visiting the museum to see the flag display and honor our nation by participating in the Anthem Across America event at 3pm on Saturday.
