Though we’re nearing the end of this designated week to recognize and celebrate the importance of museums in communities throughout the state, we caught up with Kristine Jorgensen to ask her about her job as the museum curator for the Guthrie County Historical Village.

It’s a job Jorgensen considers herself fortunate to have.

“It’s probably one of the best jobs that anyone can have because it combines so many things… my love of history, and textiles and costumes, and art and antiques.  It’s just the perfect job, and I wish more people would come down here and experience the museum because I think they would be pleasantly surprised at what they see.”

For area residents who haven’t visited the Guthrie County Historical Village, Jorgensen says the museum experience outlives any of the presumptions people might have.

“We’ve got beautiful gardens, we’re on four and a half acres so it is a really nice park.  It’s actually a place where you can just come and sit in our gazebo, be in the middle of our butterfly garden and see butterflies, birds and every once in a while you’ll see a deer or two run there if it’s in the evening.  So, it’s just a treasure to have this in our county and we’re so very lucky.”

As Iowa Museum Week wraps up, Jorgensen encourages area residents to stop by the Historical Village sometime this summer.  She says there are many different historical displays and antiques that relate to Guthrie County and Iowa history for visitors to enjoy.
