A pair of 4-3 games last Friday meant Greene County moved into a first place tie with PCM (Monroe) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball. The Rams took advantage of a dropped pop up near first base with two out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to win in Jefferson over North Polk (Alleman), 4-3. Saydel (Des Moines) used a Lizzy Miklus home run in the bottom of the seventh that same night to hand PCM its first conference loss, also by a 4-3 score. Both the Rams and Mustangs are 8-1 in the conference with PCM downing Greene County on May 30, also, 4-3, with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams are 10-4 overall and winners of eight of their last night games overall. Saydel is just 3-7 in conference play, but the Eagles are coming off what is easily their biggest win of the season. Coach Kennedy is hoping his team will start to score more runs after collecting just 13 runs in four games last week.

The next scheduled Greene County softball broadcast is set for Friday, June 20 vs. PCM in Jefferson at 7:15 p.m. It’s possible first place could be on the line, depending what the Rams and Mustangs do earlier in the week.

If there are no postponements this week, Greene County will play eight games today through Saturday including three at the West Marshall tournament in State Center on Saturday.
